Fall may be in the air… but that doesn’t mean skipping the SPF. Most premature aging is caused by the sun and daily use of sunscreen is your best defense in minimizing skin damage. Remember our recent post about UVA and UVB rays? UVA rays are always present even on cold, cloudy days. They also have the ability to penetrate more deeply, so don’t fool yourself into thinking your safe just because the sun isn’t shining.
SkinMedica’s Daily Physical Defense SPF 30+ is unlike other sunscreens that use chemical agents as a form of protection. These chemicals seep into the skin and absorb the sun’s rays. Daily Physical Defense is a mineral sunscreen that sits on top of the skin and rather than absorbing these harmful rays, it reflects them.
This sunscreen utilizes Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. These minerals are skin friendly and provide impeccable, broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. Green tea leaf extract and caffeine team up to provide powerful antioxidant protection. The high concentration of antioxidants and polyphenols help prevent damage caused by free radicals.
Apply this product daily to the face, neck, and decollate. It’s sheer, oil free formula makes it perfect for every day use. Apply after all other products in your skin care regimen and before applying your makeup.
Doctors recommend this sunscreen for all skin types including those with sensitive skin, patients that have experienced allergic reactions to other types of sunscreens, those who are acne prone, and even those who have had a recent peel or aesthetic procedure because this product is so gentle in nature.
Daily Physical Defense SPF 30 + is also recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. In fact, a portion of all proceeds go to further skin cancer education and awareness.
This week’s featured product is SkinMedica’s incredible Vitamin C+E Complex. This product improves the appearance of the skin’s tone and texture while increasing firmness. High concentrations of vitamins C and E work together to provide extraordinary antioxidant protection while fighting free radicals caused by aging, pollution, and other atmospheric stressors such as the sun.
Vitamin C+E Complex contains key ingredients such as Ascorbic Acid and Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (try saying that 5 times fast). These are both highly absorbable forms of Vitamin C. Tocopheryl Acetate and Tocopherol are forms of Vitamin E that are incredibly active free radical scavengers.
Vitamin C+E Complex’s time release formula delivers vitamins to your skin throughout the day providing you with continuous antioxidant protection. This product is ideal for all ages and skin types.
This complex is a customer favorite and has been featured on The Today Show and in various magazines such as InStyle and Marie Claire.
Due to the high concentration of vitamins C and E, this product only needs to be used once a day. Apply a single pump every morning to the face and neck after cleansing and toning but before applying moisturizer and sunscreen. Fans of this product start to notice amazing results such as radiant, youthful looking skin in just a few short weeks.

Is your skin stressed, dull looking, and just a little tired? Over time dirt, oil, and impurities can build up on our skin making it look and feel a little less than perfect. Enter… SkinMedica’s Rejuvenative Toner. This amazing product helps to remove said dirt, oil, and impurities along with dead skin cells that build up along the skin’s surface.
What makes this toner so amazing? It contains key ingredients that pack a powerful punch including alpha-hydroxy-acid (AHA) which improves skin tone and texture while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Willow bark extract provides mild exfoliation while green tea leaf extract fights free radicals. Witch hazel acts as an antioxidant and helps to reduce the appearance of pores.
Apply SkinMedica’s Rejuvenative Toner to the face twice a day after cleansing and before moisturizing and applying additional products. For more information on this product please check out SkinMedica’s official site.
Each week we will be discussing a product we love and why we think you will love it too! This week it’s all about SkinMedica’s TNS Essential Serum.
TNS Essential Serum is one of the company’s most popular (and most miraculous) products. It has been featured in magazines such as In Style and on shows including The View.
TNS Essential Serum is often referred to as “the hero product”. It is an all in one treatment to rejuvenate your skin and many people feel if they could have only one product this would be the one! Here are a few reasons why this product is so incredible.
This product contains growth factores and antioxidants that minimize the visible signs of aging, brightens, and helps to restore youthful looking skin. The dual chamber offers TNS recovery complex on one side and APS corrective complex on the other, so essentially you are able to use two incredible products at once. The TNS recovery complex contains growth factors, proteins, soluble collagen, and antioxidants while the APS corrective complex supplies your skin with antioxidants, peptides, and specialty ingredients that help to fight free radicals and rejuvenatethe skin.
TNS Essential Serum improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, enhances skin tone and texture, and reduces the appearance of age spots and discoloration. Some see a difference in as little as 4 weeks, however, noticeable benefits are typically seen after 90 days.
It is important to properly use this product in order to reap the maximum benefits. Before use tap the bottle against your hand a number of times to prime the product. Press down in the center of the pump to dispense to product onto the back of your hand. This will leave you with a dollop that is half orange (TNS Recovery Complex) and half white (APS Corrective Complex) due to the dual chambers. Apply the product evenly to the face, neck, and decollate. TNS Essential Serum should be applied morning and evening after cleansing and toning but before applying other products.

You’ve heard it before and you’ll hear it again… NEVER sleep in your makeup! This isn’t just a myth or something your mother liked to tell you to do. We’ll tell you why sleeping in your makeup is one of the worst things you can do for your skin!
Premature aging: Yes! It’s true. Sleeping with your makeup on can cause premature aging for a number of reasons. If you forgo washing your face before you hit the hay you are essentially sleeping with the enemy. An entire day’s worth of irritants and pollution are being absorbed by your largest organ (your skin) in the form of free radicals. This leads to a breakdown in collagen which results in fine lines, wrinkles, and dull looking skin. Your skin naturally renews itself overnight and leaving your makeup on prevents this natural process from taking place.
Breakouts: This one is fairly self-explanatory. If you don’t allow your skin to breathe your pores will eventually become clogged. Clogged pores = acne and nobody wants that.
Eye irritation: Though sleeping with mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow on may not seem quite as bad as sleeping with a full face of foundation on, it is accompanied by a whole new slew of health issues including styes. When oil glands and hair follicles along your lash line become clogged it can result in a stye. Styes can range from minor irritations to something that may require a doctor’s attention.
All in all, shaving five minutes off of your bedtime routine is not worth it. Next time you are thinking about falling into bed without washing your face think again. You may have sweet dreams, but its effects on your skin could be a total nightmare.
We have all heard about the many dangers of the sun’s rays, along with a few benefits (hello Vitamin D!)… but do you know the difference between UVA and UVB rays? Here’s the low down.
UVA rays are always present during daytime hours, even on a cloudy day. They have the ability to penetrate more deeply than UVB rays. Have you ever gotten a suntan through your car window? You can thank UVA rays for that.
The problem with UVA rays is that we can’t always see or feel them. This gives us a false sense of security. Anyone who has gotten the dreaded ski goggle tan knows that looks can be deceiving. It may be cold and cloudy out, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to use sun protection.
UVA rays damage cells deep beneath the surface of your skin. You may not always notice this damage right away; unfortunately, it may become more evident later on in life in the form of sunspots and wrinkles.
UVB rays are not as prevalent as UVA rays; however, they are quite powerful. These rays are more dominant during the summer months when the sun is shining. They are strongest at mid day, making it extra important to protect your skin during this time.
Sunscreens were originally formulated to protect against UVB rays, as these were originally thought to be the most damaging. Now in days most sunscreens are formulated to protect against both UVA an UVB rays. Just check the label for “UVA/UVB” or “broad spectrum” that way you know you are covered (literally). We love Skin Medica’s Daily Physical Defense SPF 30+. It is sheer, oil free, hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic [<– this means it won’t clog your pores]! This product is perfect for everyday use and is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation.
